I got my first taste of ‘Army Strong’ that Tuesday. It was a little before 6 a.m. at Lied Recreation Center. I stepped out of my car, took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. The smell of morning dew filled the air and I could hear birds chirping nearby. It was still dark as I stood there looking toward the front door, toward the struggles I knew awaited me.
