Visibilidad y accesibilidad al patrimonio documental de la Universidad de La Habana: repositorio institucional SCRIPTORIUM

It is described a set of actions, developed by the Direction of Information of the University of Havana, to expand the possibilities of access and use of the thesis defended in the context of different programs of the academic institution. It is argued why thesis are part of documentary heritage of academics institution. Specialized sites in this area of knowledge were studied and some data were taken. Two questionnaires were applied, one of them was dedicated to identify what type of repositories are currently used for the scientific production of an institution and another was dedicated to identify the software most used with these purposes, its peculiarities, advantages and disadvantages. Among the main findings were obtained, firstly that the repositories most commonly used are institutional and thematic; secondly, that Dspace is the most used tool currently used for these types of repositories. The main aspects in the institutional repository implementation and the agenda for the future development of this repository are described. It concludes by reaffirming the importance of promoting the principles of open access movement in the academic community.Se describen el conjunto de acciones que ha desarrollado la Dirección de Información de la Universidad de La Habana, para ampliar las posibilidades de acceso y uso de las tesis defendidas en el contexto de los diferentes programas de la institución académica. Se estudiaron y se tomaron datos de sitios especializados en esta área del conocimiento y se aplicaron dos cuestionarios, uno dedicado a identificar qué tipo de repositorios se usan actualmente para la producción científica de una institución y otro a identificar el software que más se usa con estos fines, sus peculiaridades, ventajas y desventajas del sistema. Entre los principales hallazgos se obtuvo, en primer lugar que los repositorios que más se usan son los institucionales y los temáticos. En segundo lugar que es el Dspace, la herramienta más usada actualmente para estos tipos de repositorios. Se describen los principales aspectos en la implementación del repositorio institucional. Se describe la agenda de desarrollo futuro del repositorio. Se concluye al reafirmar la importancia de fomentar en la comunidad académica la práctica de difusión científica basada en los principios del movimiento de acceso abierto
