This study investigated the relationships between selected variables and teacher career satisfaction, and tested 14 research hypotheses formulated on the basis of literature review and a theoretical model of teacher career satisfaction. The sample consisted of 586 first-year teachers in Iowa in the 1985-86 school year. Findings partially supported the hypotheses and the theoretical model. Specifically, no significant relationships between personal characteristics (age and sex) and overall career satisfaction of beginning teachers were found.
