FESS for the Management of Orbital Disease and Complications

Objectives: The aim of this study is to look at the treatment of patients with orbital diseases and complications. We present our experience with endoscopic treatment of orbital diseases and complications.Matherials and methods: A retrospective analysis of the management of patients with orbital diseases and complications from 2012 to 2013. Patients’ demographic data, clinical picture, disease localization, management, complications and outcomes are reported.Results: A total of 10 patients with orbital complications and diseases have been treated during this period in our clinic. Of them, four were female and six – male. Five patients had tumors and endoscopic decompression of the orbit was performed. Of them, there was one case of ethmoid osteoma with compression of the orbit, two cases of advanced orbital hemangioma, and two cases of exophthalmos due to Graves' disease. Two patients had orbital complications due to frontal sinus mucocele and were managed with a combined endoscopic and external approach. There were three cases of subperiosteal orbital abscess. They underwent endoscopic anterior ethmoidectomy and incision and drainage. All patients had improvement of symptoms or full remission. One patient had epistaxis due to injury to a. sphenopalatina. Bleeding was controlled by endoscopic revision.Conclusions: Our experience shows that endoscopic sinus surgery for the management of orbital disease and complications is safe and effective and this is in line with data reported by other authors
