This thesis describes the formation and physical properties of atomic chains consisting of metal atoms and incorporated small molecules. Small molecules like oxygen and hydrogen modify the electrical and mechanical properties of these wires, resulting in new one-dimensional conductors.LEI Universiteit LeidenLIO
