Steeds meer scholen hebben een begeleidingsprogramma, om beginnende docenten te ondersteunen in hun eerste jaren van de zelfstandige beroepsuitoefening. Met een interviewstudie en een vragenlijststudie is onderzocht in hoeverre inductieprogramma___s bijdragen aan het welbevinden van de beginnende docenten en aan hun professionele ontwikkeling. Uit het onderzoek bleek dat de nadruk in inductieprogramma___s vaak ligt op emotionele ondersteuning en het helpen van docenten bij problemen met klassenmanagement. Een mogelijke verklaring hiervoor is dat de meeste mentoren sterk gericht lijken te zijn op de alledaagse urgente zorgen en problemen van de docent.
