The role of South African researchers in intercontinental collaboration

The analysis presented in this proposal is specifically focusing on mapping up, based on publication output, the scientific collaborating activity of African based researchers and the role of the South African research community as a channel for within- and intercontinental collaborations. We have selected three scientific fields, Biomedical Sciences, Agricultural and Food Sciences and Psychology to gain a clear picture of the aforementioned scientific activity. As it is a short proposal, in order to carry out a more detailed analysis of the role of South African research community in, especially, intercontinental collaboration in the future, we are going to conduct more extensive analyses across multitude of different scientific fields, and include defining factors such as the role and prominence of funding organisations in research practices
