This paper analyses the effects of an education reform that increased the length of the school day from four hours to eight, on teenage pregnancy and on girls’ aspirations for their futures. The reform was implemented in Colombia, and this study focuses on rural areas, using a data set of 1416 observations for 2016. I found that attending an institution that implements a longer school day decreases the likelihood of pregnancy in young girls by 4.32%. I also found that girls’ aspirations regarding their futures do not seem to be adjusted of modified by the reform, suggesting the existence of social and cultural rigidities in these regions that impede young women from adjusting their ideas for their future, despite being exposed to increased ...
