The Bachelor's thesis is concerned with Tacitus' view of Roman waging of war, evaluation of the impacts of Roman imperialism and his consideration of the actions of emperors and other important actors of the Roman Empire and their performance in war. Tacitus and his work, namely his two lesser monographies, will be briefly delineated in the introduction. Next, a description will be given of the Roman doctrine of bellum iustum. Calgalus' speech and his criticism of Roman politics of aggression will follow. Tacitus' description of barbarians and their wars will then be interpreted so that the final part of analysis would focus on Tacitus' evaluation of the Roman side and Roman figures associated with warfare.
