For some years, reducing bituminous mix temperatures has been a common trend among asphalt producers because it is a very effective way to reduce energy consumption and atmospheric emissions of asphalt plants, along with other reasons. However, the energy demand of bituminous mixtures production is not only related to mix temperature, but also to the specific production technology, materials and designs used to achieve the temperature reduction. In bituminous mixtures containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), the usability of aged bitumen in turn depends on the production temperature, being more effective in hot bituminous mixes that in other ones.
