This article aims to analyze the uses of history in two Brazilian film productions: Black God, White Devil, 1964 film directed by Glauber Rocha, and Bacurau, 2019 film directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles. In the first film, historical perception is valued as a resource for an eventual transformation of the present; in the second, the importance of history is urgent as a defense resource. In both cases, the past plays a crucial role in the narratives and the concept of experience in Walter Benjamin helps us to understand this dynamic.
