Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women in the U.S. The CDC estimates that between 2010 and 2020, there will be an increase in breast cancer in women in the United States by 21%, or greater 900,000 new cases per year. (CDC) Women are at increased risk for breast cancer due to the fact that some breast cancers have cells which are responsive to the hormone estrogen. Further, the risk of developing cancer increases as women age. Women who experience menopause after age 55 have an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
