Anesthesia and anesthesiologist perception in physicians working in surgical and non-surgical branches, in patients and in non-patient populations

Biz bu çalışmada farklı popülasyonlarda grupların anestezistin hastane içindeki rolü konusunda farkındalığını belirlemeyi hedefleyerek anestezi-anestezist algısını ölçmeye çalıştık. Gereç ve Yöntem: Meram Tıp Fakültesinde cerrahi branşlarda çalışan hekimler, dahili branşlarda çalışan hekimler, operasyon öncesi Meram Tıp Fakültesi anestezi polikliniğine başvuran hastalar (anestezi muayenesinden önce) ve hasta olmayan vatandaşlar olmak üzere dört grup üzerinde onların anestezi ve anestezist algılarını değerlendiren bir anket hazırlanmıştır. Etik kurul onamı alındıktan sonra ankete katılmayı kabul edenlerden gönüllü onam formu alınarak, anket çalışması anestezi asistanı tarafından yapılmıştır. Her gruba 100 kişi dahil edilecek şekilde toplam 400 anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Anketteki sorular ankete katılan herkesin anlayabileceği şekilde hazırlanmış olup, anket formu sırasıyla 13, 9 ve 9 soru içeren üç bölümden ve toplam 31 sorudan oluşmaktadır (Anket soruları ekte mevcuttur). Katılımcıların anlamadığı sorularda gerekli açıklamalar anestezi doktoru tarafından yapılmıştır. 18 yaş altı, anketi cevaplayamayacak derecede nöropskiyatrik problemli; görme, işitme yada dil sorunu nedeniyle yeterli iletişim kurulamayan kişiler çalışmaya dahil edilmemiştir. ...We tried to measure the awareness of the different population groups about the role of the anaesthetist in the hospital and anaesthesia– anaesthetist perception in this study. Material and Method : In Medical Faculty of Meram a questionnaire was prepared to evaluate their anaesthesia and anaesthetist perceptions on four groups: the physicians working in surgical branches, the physicians in internal branches, patients who consulted to the anaesthesia polyclinic of Meram Medical Faculty (before the anaesthesia examination) and non-ill citizens. After the approval of the ethics committee, the volunteer consent form was taken from those who agreed to participate in the survey, and the survey study was conducted by the anaesthesia residents. A total of 400 surveys were conducted to include 100 people in each group. The questions in the questionnaire were prepared in a way that everyone in the survey could understand and the questionnaire consisted of 31 questions in three parts with 13, 9 and 9 questions respectively. The necessary clarifications were made by the anaesthesiologist when questions were not understood by the participants. Under the age of 18, neuropsychiatric patients at the point of not being able to answer the questionnaire; persons who cannot communicate adequately due to language problems, visually impaired or deaf have not been included in the study. Results: The knowledge of anaesthetists and the role of them in terms of health was inadequate especially in the public and patient groups. On the other hand there is wrong or insufficient perception to anaesthetist because of not being view. Despite of rising information and getting easier to access information, the perception of anaesthetist and anaesthesia such a weak that this situation is not different in terms of physicians too. Although they work in same sections, it is remarkable that the situation does not change. Even if anaesthesiologists try to make a complete explanation about anaesthesia to be applied to their patients; the lack of time to explain with stress and anxiety due to the surgical procedures of the patients reduces the quality and quantity of information perceived by the patients. In this case, anaesthesia of the people in our study group than in the patient group and has led to the emergence of lower anaesthetist perception. Conclusion: The study was applied in our university, it was concluded that the perception to the role of anaesthetist was especially low in all groups. If anaesthetists introduce themselves to the public by media and internet, make research on mindfulness and also struggle for increasing the quality of perioperative care about the patients, their awareness and images in the public will increase remarkably. On the other hand inadequate awareness of the physicians who work with anaesthetists in the same environment can be achieved by mandatory anaesthesia rotations and increased communication
