Comparison of Beck and State-Trait Anxiety Scales in the Evaluation of Preoperative Anxiety

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, ameliyat öncesi hastaların anksiyete düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesinde kullanılan Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği (BAI) ile Durumluk Anksiyete Ölçeği (STAI-I) ve Sürekli Anksiyete ölçeği (STAI-II)’nin karşılaştırılmasıdır. Yöntem: Bu araştırma, prospektif bir araştırma olup, Ekim 2018 ve Nisan 2019 tarihleri arasında bir üniversite hastanesinde septorinoplasti ameliyatı geçiren 109 hastanın gönüllü katılımıyla gerçekleştirildi. Veriler kişisel bilgi formu, BAI ve STAI-I ve II ile toplandı. Bulgular: BAI’ya göre ortalama anksiyete düzeyi 12.77±7.09, STAI-I’e göre anksiyete ortalaması 41.60±11.07, STAI-II’ye göre anksiyete ortalaması 42.40±8.37 puan olarak bulundu. Her 3 ölçek ile kadınlarda anksiyete skorları anlamlı yüksek idi (p<0.001). BAI ortalama toplam puanı ile STAI-I ve STAI-II ortalama toplam puanı arasında pozitif yönde istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir ilişki bulundu (p<0.001). Sonuç: Hastaların ameliyat öncesi BAI, STAI-I ve STAI-II ölçekleri ile orta düzeyde anksiyete yaşadıkları belirlendi. Preoperatif anksiyetenin değerlendirilmesinde BAI yüksek sensitivite ve spesifite ile kullanılabilir.Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-II) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-II), which are used to evaluate the anxiety levels of preoperative patients. Method: This is a prospective study, with participation of 109 voluntary patients who had undergone septorhinoplasty surgery in a university hospital between October 2018 and April 2019. The data were collected by personal information form, BAI and STAI-I and II. Results: The mean anxiety score according to BAI was 12.77±7.09, the mean anxiety score according to STAI-I was 41.60±11.07, and the mean anxiety score was 42.40±8.37 according to STAI-II.
