International audienceCapture-mark-recapture techniques are smart non-invasive sampling methods to evaluate the number of individuals in a population. Primarily used in ecology, they also find a much broader scope for investigations in various fields. From a pedagogical standpoint, they nicely illustrate, in a very simple and practical way, many key points of probabilistic reasoning as a rationale essential 1 to statistician-modellers.
