Due to the progress in the development of research of various kinds involving mammals, changes in the richness of species registered in the national territory are reported every year. A notable effort aimed at updating the knowledge of this group in the country indicated the presence of 492 species by 2013 (Solari et al. 2013). This number increased to 500 species by 2014, based on systematic reviews or additions of new distribution locations for several neotropical species (Ramírez-Chaves & Suárez-Castro 2014) and in this review the number of species is increased to 518 for the country.
