Plasticity of the central nervous system is fundamental to an animal's capacity to adapt to continually changing biomechanical and environmental demands. Although the neuronal mechanisms underlying such essential behaviours as locomotion must adapt to an organism's morphological modifications during growth and development, the associated changes that occur in central nervous function remain poorly understood.
