Bu çalışmada radyoterapide kullanılan protonların, bazı biyolojik hedefler üzerinde enerjilerini nasıl kaybettikleri ve ne kadar yol alabildikleri konusunda çalışmalar yapıldı. Radyoterapide protonların enerji aralığı 65-250 MeV olmasına rağmen, bu çalışmada 0,04-250 MeV enerji aralığındaki proton kullanılarak, su, deri, prostat, testis, pankreas ve hava için, birim uzunluk başına ortama bıraktıkları enerji (durdurma gücü) (Stopping Power) ve enerjilerini kaybedene kadar aldıkları yol (menzil) hesaplamaları teorik olarak yapıldı. Durdurma gücü hesaplamalarında, Tsoulfanidis (1995) tarafından ağır yüklü parçacıklar için önerilen durdurma gücü eşitliği kullanıldı.
