Civa klorid insan ve hayvanlara oldukça toksik olduğu bilinen bir ağır metal olarak tanımlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, sodyum selenit, vitamin E, vitamin E+sodyum selenit, civa klorid, sodyum selenit+civa klorid, vitamin E+civa klorid ve sodyum selenit+vitamin E+civa klorid erkek ratlara gavaj yoluyla verilmiştir. Muameleden 4 hafta sonra ratlarda ışık mikroskobuyla kalpte meydana gelen histopatolojik değişiklikler incelenmiş, antioksidan enzim aktiviteleri ile lipit peroksidasyonunun son ürünü olan malondialdehit (MDA) düzeyi kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırmalı olarak araştırılmıştır.
