Reiteration of the pre-historical art forms; a new reading trial on the production of images in sculpture

The history of civilization has handed down the traces of past to our age. In the present study titled "Reiteration of the Pre-historical Art Forms; a new reading trial on image production in Sculpture," the fact that primitive civilizations have a sort of art perception challenging their own conditions is aimed to be viewed. The art forms created by the primitive civilizations can be seen as a search for a plastic language. That particular language developed in correlation with human evolution might also be understood as an attempt for forming the foundations of art in terms of its representation of the nature and things belonging to the nature. It is seen that the images, which our primitive ancestors symbolized the perceptions obtained from the nature by their abstractive instinct, are a result of composition of mind and sense. In the present study, in which the knowledge, symbols and the traces of this knowledge is searched; we have evaluated the perception of the present day modern human toward the primitiveness of the past. The way prehistoric civilizations perceived the universe, the traces of plastic language imposed on the material reflecting on the reality have a significant place in the present study. Due to the analytic and syntactic abilities of our primitive ancestors, their approach to the material and nature, and their power, they had the opportunity to attain an awareness of themselves in the process of perception and interpretation of the material and nature. In the present study, the parallel development of human and sculpture was aimed to be analyzed from the perspective of the functions of materials and forms. A period in which abstract and concrete, reality and imagination intertwined, and the unbelievable products of reality were evaluated in terms of the history of sculpture and their direct traces on the development of human. While revealing pathways starting from the continuation of the spirit imposed in the material to the intuitive imagination of the present day artists, the works of native and foreign sculptures that created contemporary art objects on these topics were addressed. The unavoidable role of sculpture, from prehistoric ages to our recent history, in the search for form and knowledge was discovered.
