Mollusks and their shells from the seas and river basins have been used by humans for millennia. Their meats were part of their diet. Testimonies of the economic activity of collection, have remained as heaps of them in diverse latitudes of the planet always in relation to mirrors of water. Sometimes, in places very remote and far from the sea, as in Central America.In this article we realize how it is used as a reference in diverse social, cultural and expressive contexts.Los moluscos y sus conchas provenientes de los mares y cuencas fluviales, fueron aprovechados por el hombre desde hace milenios. Sus carnes formaban parte de su dieta. Testimonios de la actividad económica de recolección, han quedado como amontonamientos de ellas en diversas latitudes del planeta siempre en relación con espejos de agua. En ocasiones, en lugares muy remotos y alejados del mar, como sucede en Centroamérica.
