Intending to discuss the legal apparatus that promote public educational policies, aimed at training teachers in Brazil, this text makes an overflight by Brazilian law, questioning how these documents interfere the degree curriculum organization and teacher training in Brazil. We used documental research which consisted in the analysis of documents that regulate teacher training; and the curricular structure of a degree offered by a public university of Bahia State. We turn to the literature to situate the legal provisions in its historical and social context, and understand that their intentions linked to political and economic ideologies define the effectiveness of these policies in the context of education and performance of teachers.
