The Spanish ballad Las princesas encantandas y delealtad entre hermanos was printed as a chapbook with three parts in the 18th century and throughout the 19th century. This paper aims to analyze this ballad as a folktale and fairy tale which includes sequences and folk motifs found in ATU 301 (The Three Stolen Princesses, better known as John the Bear in Hispanic versions) and ATU 314 (Goldener). Its plot will be compared with a tale in One Thousand and One Nights (modern tale, introduced by Mardrus in the 1889 version), and with three Hispanic tales: El caballo de siete colores, written by Juan de Ariza (1848), Mercè Mercè, folktale collected by Antoni Alcover (1896), and the Philippine awit (versified story) Juan Tiñoso.
