Integrate Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting System with Architectural Design on Preliminary Phase of Design Process

This study aims towards the development of the framework for domestic rooftop harvesting for domestic purpose and highlight the integrate RTRWH system design with Architectural design element in preliminary phase as a viable means to achieve water security in the high-rise condominium house and compare and contrast the existing policy and strategy supply water on condominium building, as well as explores the potential for harvesting of rainwater as an alternative option in condominium house and sustainable solutions to the impending water crisis in Addis Ababa. The results of a survey indicated that, the government subsidy strategy for the resident, the existing policy is not fulfilled the required framework and there is no specific policy that directly addresses rain water harvesting to become against the problems of the water shortage. According to the investigation households living in a condominium house found that 62% of the households do not have sufficient water for their day to day demands. Accordingly, around eighty-seven present of the families depended on different water sources. That sources are public taps (29%), vendors (12%), kiosks (4%) and 6% of the households depends on rainwater during time and the rest, 33% of the households, are relying on unimproved water sources if their primary source absent. Recommendations of this thesis include the development of policies specifically targeting the rain water harvesting system to use as alternative water supply
