An Experimental and Numerical Investigation on Bolted Joints of Woven Glass Fabric/Epoxy Composites

In the present work, an attempt is made to studythe mechanical response of woven glassfabric/epoxy composite laminates usingnumerical modelling and experimentation. Forthis two different configurations namely doublelap joined with single and double bolts arechosen. These laminates are subjected tonumerical modelling using finite elementanalysis to study the joint strength and stressanalysis. The joint strength of woven glassfabric composites is studied experimentally byconducting tensile test. Along with this the effectof varying edge distance to diameter ratios arestudied both numerically and experimentally toarrive at safe design. Both numerical analysisand experimentally obtained bearing strength ofcomposite laminated bolted joints arecorrelated. This is done in order to predict thethe failure load and failure mechanisms in thecomposite laminate bolted joints. The variationin the numerically and experimentally obtainedbearing strength values were well within 5%diference for both cases of single and doublebolted joints
