Comprehensive field measurement programs supporting satellite ocean color missions are essential for the generation of data products with the traceability, accuracy and consistency required for climate change investigations. Within such a context, in situ optical radiometry plays a fundamental role in system vicarious calibration, validation of data products, and the development of bio-optical models for the generation of derived products.
