The European Programme on Critical Infrastructure Protection (EPCIP) of the European Commission is in search for a methodology to analyse economic losses following from Critical Infrastructure failure in the European Union. Therefore, a federated Systems Engineering and Dynamic Inoperability Input-Output model (SE-DIIM) is being developed. The systems engineering model analyses the performance degradation and recovery of an infrastructure system resulting from a disruption. Both geographical (automatically extracted from the network topology) and functional (type and behavior of the network) (inter)dependencies are taken into account.
