Besides the ongoing tendency towards analytical applications for the life sciences, a significant decrease of research activities for environmental analysis has been detected. There is an increase in the use of modern optoelectronic techniques based on microstructured components. The major move from chemical sensors to biosensors has continued and molecular-biological receptors are dominating clearly in comparison to chemically synthesised ones.
