Obtaining accurate in situ radiometric data in support of satellite ocean color applications has become a pressing need since the early 1980s with the onset of missions for global mapping of marine biomass. This work presents the state-of-the art in marine optical radiometry through an overview on absolute calibration, measurement methods, uncertainties and applications to the validation of satellite ocean color data.JRC.DDG.H.3-Global environement monitorin
