Initially the Sensor Web was defined as a web of physical sensors or sensor networks (Di, 2007). With the advent of service oriented architecture (SOA), the definition gained a more technical focus, where virtual sensors may also encapsulate simulations of geospatial phenomena (Di, 2007). A second extension, encapsulating citizen as sensors, was proposed recently (Goodchild, 2007). Today, numerous use cases for each of these three aspects of the Sensor Web are available to environmental sciences; these include environmental monitoring, emergency response systems, air and water quality, health, and transport...JRC.DDG.H.6-Spatial data infrastructure
