IN THE SUMMER OF 1983 AND 1984 SOME ATMOSPHERIC DIFFUSION EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT AT THE MONTALTO DI CASTRO SITE, IN THE PRESENCE OF A SEA BREEZE, USING A CHEMICAL TRACER (SF6). THE RESULTS SHOWED THE EFFECT OF THE STRONG DIRECTIONALITY OF BREEZE CIRCULATION DURING THE WARMEST PERIOD OF THE DAY: THE LIMITATION IN VERTI- CAL DIFFUSION, CAUSED BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTERNAL BOUNDARY LAYER (I.B.L.), WAS PERFECTLY SHOWN BY THE VERTICAL THERMAL SOUNDINGS WHICH WERE PERFORMED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SF6 EMISSION.NA-NOT AVAILABL
