Terrestrial ecosystems gaseous exchanges are today recognized to be an important issue for understanding the biosphere-atmosphere interactions and for their role on the global climate system. Among the micrometeorological methods the energy balance/bowen ratio, the eddy covariance and the eddy accumulation are the most widely employed to measure gaseous exchanges in terrestrial ecosystems. This review. which describes the teoretical backgrounds and the experimental applications of these methodologies, is particularly directed to plant ecophysiologists, ecologists and botanists interested in scaling biological processes to the canopy level.JRC.(EI)-Environment Institut
