Determination of the spatial extent of peatland is important for the evaluation of soil carbon stocks. At European Level there is a need to provide accurate and updated estimate of the distribution of peatland. The aim of the present study is to test a methodology based on the integration of GIS analysis and remote sensing, to map the regional extent of the peatland in Estonia. It has been evaluated a multispectral approach using Landsat TM and Aster, as well as multitemporal analysis of MODIS and MERIS reflectance data. Validation of data have been realized using existing maps and inventory of Estonian peatland, as well as doing on field investigations.JRC.H.7-Land management and natural hazard
