Objectives Hydrogels are gaining interest as biomaterials in bone tissue engineering (BTE). However, hydrogels must be mechanically stable, receptive to mineralisation, non-cytotoxic and support adhesion and growth of bone forming cells. Ease of sterilisation and antibacterial activity are also desirable.
