Ice model tests of a 1/12 scale 60 upward breaking cone are described. The cone was tested in three ice thicknesses corresponding to 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5m. Cone-ice dynamic friction was also varied. The model was instrumented to measure three orthogonal loads as well as an overturning moment. Cone diameter was seen to have little effect on ice loads. A simple expression relating horizontal ice load to cone geometry, friction coefficient and ice properties is derived. The model results are compared with an analytical model developed by Croasdale.NRC publication: Ye
