Considering the fact that HPV is the most common of ali sexually transmitted diseases and that 75% of sexually active people have come in contact or have been infected with at least one type of HPV during their life, the aim of this study is to raise public awareness of the human papilloma virus and it affects the human body. HPV is a small virus from the Papillomaviridae family, and has about 8000 bp, 9 genes, and a circular double-helix DNA Today, cervical cancer is considered to be a sexually transmitted disease, with HPV as its main cause. lt is interesting that most individuals infected with the virus are not aware the virus exists or even know what HPV means. Although HPV infections are very wide-spread, only 200 000 women die of cervical cancer each year, which points to the fact that HPV although being the main cause of cervical cancer isn't the only precondition for its development. Other independent initiators of carcinogenesis are persisting infections, the quantity of the virus, destabilizing genome processes, the immunological characteristics of the host, and immunocompromised patients. The specific diagnostic method of detecting the virus is molecular diagnostics (PCR and hibridization methods). At the moment there are no specific antiviral treatments of HPV related genital infections. Treating the infection is usually based on removing changes on the skin surface and mucous membrane which indicate the presence of HPV activity.
