Species Diversity of Birds at UNIMAS Forest and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, Sarawak

A study on bird species diversity were conducted at UNIMAS forest, Kota Samarahan and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, Siburan, from November 2014 to April 2015. The main objective of this study was to compare the species diversity between UNIMAS forest and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. This study also determined the shared species between the two sites. Ten mist-nets were deployed for 10 non-consecutive days at UNIMAS forest, while at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, 20 mist-nets were deployed for five sampling days. A total of 50 birds comprising 21 species from 13 families were recorded. Rufous-backed Kingfisher (Ceyx rufidorsa) was the most dominant species in UNIMAS forest while Yellow-breasted Flowerpecker (Prionochilus maculatus) was the most dominant species in Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. Statistical analysis showed that there is significant difference between both of the study sites
