A novel terahertz quantum cascade laser, based on consecutive phonon-photon-phonon emissions, is proposed. The design procedure used a density matrix based figure-of-merit and a generic algorithm approach; the fabricated device lased up to 138 K. \ua9 2012 OSA.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye
