The common method for rain-leakage testing of windows in North America has been to use a static airpressure difference to simulate the effects of wind and a water-spray- nozzle system to simulate wind-driven rain. A number of test methods are being used that incorporate these essential features but which differ in details of apparatus and test variables. The American Society of Testing and Materials has recently attempted to achieve some degree of uniformity in these methods. The Division of Building Research participated in this activity of the ASTM in two ways.
