Standard fire endurance tests, following the procedures described in ASTM E119, were conducted on six concrete block walls with 3/8 in. and 1/2 in. thick gypsum wallboard finishes on one or both faces. The results suggest that the fire endurance of 4 in. and 6 in. block walls can be doubled by the judicious use of gypsum wallboard protection. Two methods of estimating the contribution of gypsum wallboard to the fire endurance of masonry walls with reasonable accuracy are proposed. On a effectu\ue9, conform\ue9ment \ue0 la norme ASTM E119, des essais standard de r\ue9sistance au feu sur six murs de blocs de b\ue9ton recouverts de placopl\ue2tre d'une \ue9paisseur de 3/8 po. et de 1/2 po. sur une face ou sur les deux faces.
