This paper summarizes research done to improve speech privacy and security. For open plan offices, research was done to better define acoustical design requirements. The appropriateness of the Articulation Index (AI) was investigated by carrying out speech intelligibility tests. A computer model of sound propagation between workstations was developed based on an image sources and once validated, was used to explore the importance of individual design parameters.
