The question: ?How large an effect can changing the glazing system's solar heat gain characteristics have on the overall energy consumption of a house?? can be posed by energy analysts, homeowners and glazing specialists alike. In an effort to quantify such an effect, two sealed, low emissivity, insulating glazing systems (with different solar transmission properties) were evaluated in a side-by-side experiment involving twin-houses, comparing their respective effects on house heating energy consumption (i.e., natural gas for space heating and electricity for air distribution) in a cold climate.
