This paper provides a preliminary report of an experimental study to confirm construction details that affect the low frequency impact sound insulation offered by platform wood frame construction. This paper shows that ceiling mounting, floor stiffness, and floor toppings can be effective methods to improve impact sound insulation from the "bang machine" heavy impact source. Additionally, the paper shows that in the frequency range where the single number ratings are controlled direct transmission dominates but flanking is sufficiently important to affect the apparent impact sound insulation to the room below.
