The paper examines the basis of the present design wind load requirements of the National Building Code of Canada and discusses their underlying assumptions as related to both their meteorological and engineering aspects. A detailed and comprehensive study of the literature on the subject of wind action on structures is presented. Recommendations for improvements which might be effected in the analysis and formulation of wind load requirements are made.
