After tests were carried out on flues and chimneys at the Champs-sur-Marne Experimental Station, certain principles were established for improving the manufacture of lightweight concrete flue units. At the same time, simple apparatus was developed for carrying out rapid heat- resistance tests on flue units. The article includes a description of the research and the conclusions which can be drawn from it, and deals with the permeability to air, expansion and heat resistance of flue and chimney units, and the way in which the simplified heat resistance testing apparatus is used.
