This report outlines the problems and difficulties of earth pressure cell design and operation. It describes the operating principles of several types of earth pressure cells and measuring instruments. With this background, the selection of a cell for a specific purpose is discussed. It is recommended that to measure earth pressures on retaining walls etc. the vibrating wire gauges offer the best opportunity for successful measurements. To measure internal pressures in earth masses the Plantema earth pressure cell is recommended; for dynamic stresses the California State Highway Dept. cell has the best features and for pore pressures the Plantema pore water pressure cell is recommended.Le rapport d\ue9crit les probl\ue8mes et les difficult\...
