In basement wall systems, airspaces can contribute in obtaining a higher thermal resistance, if a reflectivematerial such as reflective foil is installed on one side or the other of a furred-airspace. In this paper, thehygIRC-C model was used to investigate the steady-state and transient thermal performance of abasement wall system that incorporate foil bonded to expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam in a furred assembly having airspace next to the foil.
