In hot-applied bituminous roof membranes, voids built into the roof during installation become blisters. These voids can result from skips in bitumen mopping, entrapped moisture, uneven substrates, and several other causes. Entrapped moisture, for example, expands and contracts, growing into an ever larger blister.
