What matters primarily in the control of airborne sound transmission is the total mass per unit area of the subfloor and ceiling layers. Anything that increases the total mass -- other than the mass of the joists -- increases the sound isolation. That is valid for both joist floors and concrete slab floors. What matters secondarily is that the gypsum board ceiling is held by resilient channels to the joists. (If the gypsum board ceiling is rigidly attached, the STC has little chance of rising to 50.)
