This paper presents an overview of the types of evacuation systems that have been used or proposed for use on offshore structures in ice-covered waters. Various ice considerations are highlighted in relation to the use of these systems, and some of the key issue areas that are associated with different in-ice evacuation approaches identified. Past experience from the Beaufort Sea is used for illustrative purposes. Brief recommendations about key initiatives that may lead to improvements in evacuation technologies for use in ice-covered waters are also provided.NRC publication: Ye
